David Balfour Park

City of Toronto flag hanging on by one corner on the flag pole here.

David Balfour Park

Blue blanket and garlands tied to a tree here reminds of of blankets I'd seen on people at Bay and Richmond during the winter. Not just because it's a blanket but because of the colour.

David Balfour Park

A metal stake in the nature trail. I marked it with found caution tape from nearby.

Another metal stake in the nature trail. Again I marked it with found caution tape from nearby.

David Balfour Park

Tied some caution tape and a bit of an old tennis ball I found to a bunch of fence wire and metal posts near the nature trail in the ravine here.

Chestnut Street

Ya, the frozen dairy desert cone was in the orange cone when I found it. I did move the whole assembly about two metres north to cover the metal stake sticking out of the ground.

Sunnybrook Cleaned Up

Thanks to whoever cleared away the freezers that had been left outside the snack bar at Sunnybrook Park. See the November 7, 2009 posts for details.

Art Shot

Usually I take pictures of hazzards that I see. Here, some men were working nearby and I thought I'd see if I could compose a shot that would kinda just be nice to look at.

Adaptive Creation?

I've witnessed a lot of unusual animal moments in the last few years, this one stands apart for a different reason. Usually it's something unnatural about an animal that alerts me to a surreal encounter, the red tailed squirrel or the talkative dog. This was a case of the opposite. These dogs were hypernatural in this environment. The colours and proportion of colour on their coats matched the colours and proportions of the surrounding patchy ground so perfectly that it was as though they had been picked from the same pantone swatch book. When I asked their human companion if I could photograph them I found myself refering to ''the tundra'' instead of the midtown Toronto park that it was.

Balmoral and Avenue Rd.

Sunny day on a corner that doesn't really look like this. The camera angle manages to obscure the hundred or so filthy cars every few minutes that are either lined up at the lights on this six lane thoroughfare or racing past at ridiculous speeds for a residential neighbourhood. Avenue road would make a great park carpeted in grass.

Strange Stuff Yonge South Of Blythwood

A wire embeded in the concrete at the base of this new hydrant on the new pavement at Yonge on the east side south of Blythwood was laying over the curb. A nearby cone provided a way of not only marking the location but of keeping the loose end under control without looping the wire.

Yonge and Rosehill?

Anyone know how to get a message through to Canada Post?

On Lake Simcoe

Ice huts dot the frozen surface of Lake Simcoe. Standing here you can honestly say you have walked on water, unless you arrived in a pick-up truck or one of the other frequently seen vehicles out here.

Yes there are things sticking out of the pavements of Keswick too. I don't know who to call for this one. Georginites?

What I Saw

This sandbag, at the foot of a temporary fence post at Gerrard and Yonge, leaves a hard to see length of the underlying metal structure protruding into the sidewalk area just above pavement level.

What I'd Like To See

Here the bright orange sandbag covers the horizontal metal component of the fence right up to the end effectivly making the footprint of the structure visibly prominent and forgiving to bump into. It also makes the fence more stable in this position.

The Problem

A missing cover at Yonge and College. Called 311, but in the meantime what to do with a pedestrian hazard so close to a busy intersection?
